John McKee Papers, . 1793-1829

John McKee was a frontiersman, United States agent to the Choctaw and Chickasaw Indians in eastern Mississippi, and United States representative from Alabama (1823-1829). The collection contains McKee's diary, 1804-1805, and eight letters, 1793-1829, concerning Indian affairs and lands belonging to General Lafayette. The diary was written while McKee was United States Indian agent, and deals chiefly with travels and contacts with Cherokee and Chickasaw Indians.
